As you guys may know, June 20th is fathers day. Due to quarantine, most shops are closed in my town, so I wanted to do something special for my dad to make up for it. That’s why I thought it would be great to make a DIY gift idea list for Father’s Day. These gifts are super easy and quick to make.

Homemade Chocolate Cupcakes

There is a saying that the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach…I don’t know if that’s true for all dads or just mine, but my dad loves chocolate and sweets. If your dad doesn’t like chocolate then you can substitute the cocoa powder with vanilla essence.

Even if it doesn’t look like a professional cake, it’s delicious, and of course, the fact that it’s made by hand makes it much better.

Makes 5-6 cupcakes (may vary depending upon tin size). Ingredients required:

• Butter: 2 tablespoons
• Cocoa: 4 tablespoons (optional)
• Sugar: 11- 15 tablespoons (depending upon taste, may increase or decrease)
• Milk: 6 tablespoons
• Flour (all-purpose/maida) : 4 tablespoons
• Baking powder: 2 ¼ teaspoon
• Optional: desiccated coconut according to taste 
• Optional: choco chips – to your heart and tummy’s content 🙂
• Mix it all until batter is smooth.
• Microwave for 45 secs -1 min (The time will depend on your microwave and your cupcake tins so make sure to check whether it is cooked through; it can get burnt easily)

Tip: You may adjust the amount of sugar or cocoa powder to your taste.

A Handwritten Letter or Greeting Card.

One of my traditions is that I make a handwritten letter, or a greeting card every year, for special occasions like father’s day. In our daily lives, we often forget to appreciate our loved ones and the things they do for us. A handwritten letter can be a touching gift for your dad, even if you don’t have artistic skills, it’s  the thoughts and words you put into the letter that truly matters. 

I  also find it interesting to see how my letters and cards have progressed through the years. Each letter is a testament to the role my dad played in my life throughout the years.

Personalized Photo Collage or Movie

Now, I have seen many advertisements for professional collage services or photo movies. But you can create beautiful collages or movies for free using Google Photos or Canva. I did a movie for my dad and he was touched by seeing all my childhood photos with him!. There are many more in-depth tutorials on Youtube. I won’t be putting up our movie for privacy purposes, but I created a collage for you guys in Canva. Canva is easy to use…they have tons of templates in which you can drag and drop photos and add text to them.  You can also use Google Photos to add photos into a movie and set a song background to it.

Waterfall Card

If you have a more crafty interest,  this would be an amazing DIY… I think this gift is so versatile. Instead of adding a photo to each of the cards, you could write a quote.  But the trick is to use the right paper – cardstock gives a better flow. If you are trying this idea, then I would recommend making a trial one before the actual day as it does require some practice. (All rights to the creator)

DIY Photo Frame

The last idea is – a DIY photo frame! I made one for Mother’s Day but you can easily replace the writing and photos for Fathers Day as well.

This DIY is one of my favorite gifts to give because it can be really easy to make but looks so cute! Plus, it only requires 4 materials.

• A piece of cardboard
• A clear file / clear sleeve
• Color paper
• A photo / quote of your choice

Steps:

1. Take a piece of cardboard and cover it with color paper of your choice. (Make sure to glue it on really firmly)
2. Measure the size of your photo and cut the clear file slightly bigger than the photo.
3. Staple the bottom and the sides of the clear sleeve to the cardboard. (Do not staple the top)
4. Insert the photo through the top of the clear sleeve pocket.
5. Decorate the frame with washi tapes, markers and, paint, etc!

• Tip: Use washi tape to hide the staples on the plastic sleeve! It looks much better this way.
